Submarine Group Ten was commissioned January 1, 1989, and is the senior commander at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Ga.  It exercises command over various commands and units assigned, including operational and administrative control of the Ohio-class ballistic missile submarines and guided missile submarines at Kings Bay. 

Submarine Group Ten is the local coordinating authority for all matters assigned by the submarine force commander and exercises direct control over the administration and training of submarine off-crews at Kings Bay.  Specifically included in these responsibilities are the proper integration and coordination of the facilities dedicated to training support of the Trident system.

Submarine Group Ten’s subordinate commands consist of Submarine Squadron Twenty, Submarine Squadron Sixteen, Trident Refit Facility, Naval Submarine Support Center Kings Bay, six ballistic missile submarines – USS Alaska (SSBN 732), USS Tennessee (SSBN 734), USS West Virginia (SSBN 736), USS Maryland (SSBN 738), USS Rhode Island (SSBN 740), and USS Wyoming (SSBN 742), and two guided missile submarines – USS Florida (SSGN 728) and USS Georgia (SSGN 729).
